THE STARS finally fell in Kano yesterday as Remo Stars saw their NPFL title hopes—and perhaps their top-flight survival—hit the rocks in a bruising 2-1 defeat to Barau FC.
On a sweltering afternoon at the Sani Abacha Stadium, the “Sky Blue Stars” arrived looking to brighten their gloomy season. Instead, they were left seeing stars of a different kind as a clinical Barau side outfought and outmaneuvered the defending champions.
Under the guidance of Usman Abd’Allah, the Stars had hoped to continue their recent resurgence. But the light faded early when Barau’s high-press left the Remo backline in a spin. Despite flashes of brilliance from the visitors, they couldn’t find the celestial spark needed to ignite a comeback.
Remo did manage to pull one back, briefly giving their travelling fans a glimmer of hope that the Stars might align for a late draw. However, Barau held firm, leaving the Ikenne-based outfit stuck in the relegation mud with only three games left to save their skins.
It was a night where the Stars didn’t just lose—they collapsed. For a club that usually shines so bright in the NPFL firmament, the prospect of the second tier is now a terrifyingly dark reality.
Coach Abd’Allah must now find a way to reignite the flame before the Stars are extinguished from the Premier League entirely. On this evidence, they are falling fast—and there’s no safety net in sight.
