The “Giant Killers” are back! In a result that sent shockwaves through the NPFL today, Wikki Tourists pulled off the heist of the season, silencing the Samson Siasia Stadium with a clinical 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this for the Prosperity Boys. Playing in front of a raucous home crowd, Bayelsa were the heavy favorites to sweep aside the Bauchi visitors. But football is a funny old game, and Wikki hadn’t read the script.
THE STAR MAN: ABBA IBRAHIM USMAN
While football is a team game, today belonged to one man: Abba Ibrahim Usman. The Wikki danger-man was a thorn in the side of the Bayelsa defense from the first whistle.
After a scoreless first half where Bayelsa’s Robert Mizo and Ekeson Okorie huffed and puffed without blowing the house down, Usman took matters into his own hands.
In a lightning-fast counter-attack that would have made Pep Guardiola blush, the Tourists carved through the heart of the United midfield.
Usman, showing nerves of steel, latched onto a defense-splitting pass, rounded the keeper with the grace of a gazelle, and slotted home to send the traveling fans into a frenzy. It was a goal worthy of any stage in the world—pure, unadulterated class.
Bayelsa United threw the kitchen sink, the fridge, and the garden shed at Wikki in the final twenty minutes. Tekena Garando saw a header crash off the woodwork, and the Wikki goalkeeper, Utum Godswill, produced a string of “how-did-he-do-that?” saves to keep the clean sheet intact.
As the referee blew the final whistle, the silence in Yenagoa was deafening, save for the pocket of Wikki fans celebrating a massive three points on the road.
For Bayelsa, it’s back to the drawing board. They dominated possession but lacked the clinical edge that Wikki found in a single, brilliant moment. For the Tourists, this isn’t just a win—it’s a statement.
Watch out, NPFL. The Wikki-men are on the move!
