PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has hailed a new era of “synergy” in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta, as he inaugurated a string of transformative infrastructure projects designed to spark an industrial revolution.
The President used a high-profile visit to Bayelsa State to commission the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road—a vital artery originally spearheaded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)—signalling a major win for federal and state collaboration.
Powering the Future
Standing alongside NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the President emphasized that the era of abandoned projects is over. The road, which has long been a priority for the Commission’s regional development strategy, was highlighted as a prime example of the “Renewed Hope” agenda in action.
“Much more will be achieved when the different levels of government work in synergy,” President Tinubu told a packed banquet hall of stakeholders in Yenagoa.
The President also cut the ribbon on a massive 60MW Gas Turbine, a project he claims will act as the heartbeat for local job creation.
“There can be no industrialisation, skill development, and empowerment without power,” the President stated. “I assure Nigerians that we will have electricity to power our growth.”
The visit wasn’t just about tarmac and turbines; it was about righting “historical injustices.” Governor Douye Diri praised the federal support that finally saw the completion of the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge—a project first promised more than 60 years ago.
The presence of the NDDC top brass, including Executive Director Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde and Board Member Senator Dimaro Denyanbofa, underscored the Commission’s central role in the region’s current face-lift.
The infrastructure blitz comes at a critical time for the West African giant. With the government aiming to ramp up crude oil production to over 2 million barrels per day, securing the cooperation of the Niger Delta’s coastal communities is seen as essential for national security and economic stability.
Governor Diri thanked the President for “decisive policy interventions,” including vital waivers that allowed the state to import essential power equipment to keep the lights on for thousands of residents.
As the NDDC continues to align its regional masterplan with federal goals, the message from the Delta is clear: the road to prosperity is finally being paved.
