PAKISTANI Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a “sincere and earnest” plea for calm today after reports of fresh violence threatened to tear a fragile ceasefire to pieces.
In a high-stakes intervention posted to X (formerly Twitter), the PM warned that “violations” are already breaking out across the conflict zone, putting the entire peace process at risk of total collapse.
‘Exercise Restraint’
The Prime Minister didn’t mince his words as he called on all sides to pull back from the brink. With the eyes of the world on the region, Sharif is demanding that combatants honor the agreed-upon two-week truce.
In his statement, the PM said:
“Violations of ceasefire have been reported at few places across the conflict zone which undermine the spirit of peace process. I earnestly and sincerely urge all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire for two weeks, as agreed upon.”
The 14-day ceasefire was intended to give world leaders and negotiators a “breathing room” to find a permanent solution to the bloody standoff. However, with reports of gunfire and shelling breaking the silence, that window of opportunity is closing fast.
Sharif insisted that the guns must fall silent so that “diplomacy can take a lead role towards peaceful settlement of the conflict.”
The Truce: A 14-day agreement meant to stop the bloodshed.
The Threat: Scattered reports of fighting could trigger a “tit-for-tat” escalation.
The Goal: A diplomatic exit ramp to avoid a full-scale regional catastrophe.
The international community is now holding its breath to see if the warring factions will heed the PM’s warning or if the region will slide back into all-out war.
