BERLIN – Three quarters of the participants in a recent survey conducted by pollsters YouGov in Germany on behalf of dpa rejected efforts by climate group Last Generation to force more action on climate change with tactics such as street blockades.

A total of 60% if the people asked said they rejected the group’s methods “completely” and 16% said they “rather” rejected them, according to the results of the survey published on Saturday.

Another 13% of respondents said they “tended” to support the actions, while only 5% did so “completely.” The rest were undecided or made no statement.

Last Generation recently increased its obstruction of traffic in Berlin with sit-in blockades in which activists use glue to stick themselves to roads. The group announced in mid-April that it would attempt to paralyse the capital indefinitely.

Among other things, the Last Generation activists are demanding that the German government come up with a plan to achieve the international goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times.

The data used is based on an online survey conducted by YouGov Deutschland GmbH on behalf of dpa, in which 2,147 respondents nationwide took part between May 5 and 10.

The results were weighted and are representative of the German population aged 18 and over. The margin of error for the total sample is between +/- 0.92 and +/-2.11 percentage points.
