October 5, 2014 – There is renewed hope in Liberia where Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has killed 1, 998 people out of 3, 396 cases recorded.

We gathered that there has been a high rate of recovery at the Liberia Island Clinic which was refurbished recently by the Ministry of Health with support from World Health Organisation (WHO).

Dr. Atai Omoruto, a Ugandan doctor deployed to the clinic by WHO said health workers are motivated by the level of recovery at the clinic.

He said that the clinic was designed to take 120 beds but that it was overstretched to 210 patients adding that 26 people were discharged in September 26 leaving 160 patients at the clinic.

So far, Centre for Disease Control, US is working on setting up a labouratory in the clinic to speed up diagnosis of patients brought to the centre.
