    Coronavirus: Nigeria 17, 513 active as global cases pass 12 million, see top 10 nations

    LAGOS, Nigeria- The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has confirmed 499 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number to 30, 748 cases.

    But out of the 30, 748  total cases,  12,546 Nigerians have been discharged from the various isolation centres, while 689 others are dead, leaving Nigeria with 17, 513 active cases of Coronavirus.

    The NCDC documented the breakdown as follows, Lagos-157,  Edo-59,, Ondo-56 Oyo-31, Akwa Ibom-22, Borno-21, Plateau-19, Kaduna-18, Katsina-18, Bayelsa-17, FCT-17, Delta-14, Kano-11, Rivers-10, Enugu-8, Ogun-6, Kwara-4, Imo-3, Nasarawa-2, Osun-2, Abia-1, Ekiti-1, Niger-1 and Yobe-1.

    “NCDC@NCDCgov 499 new cases of #COVID19; Lagos-157 Edo-59 Ondo-56 Oyo-31 Akwa Ibom-22 Borno-21 Plateau-19 Kaduna-18 Katsina-18 Bayelsa-17 FCT-17 Delta-14 Kano-11 Rivers-10 Enugu-8 Ogun-6 Kwara-4 Imo-3 Nasarawa-2 Osun-2 Abia-1 Ekiti-1 Niger-1 Yobe-1; 30,748 confirmed; 12,546 discharged; 689 deaths”, the NCDC said in a statement.

    Globally, confirmed cases have crossed the 12 million mark. There are currently 12, 220,166 confirmed cases, 553,438 deaths, while 6, 696, 632 others have recovered, leaving the world with 4, 970, 096 active cases of the pandemic based on the latest statistics released by the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, John Hopkins University, Maryland.(1:15am)

    The United States remains in the lead among the most afflicted countries worldwide, reporting  3, 108,141 confirmed cases,   133, 195 deaths, while 969,111 Americans have  recovered, leaving the U.S. with  2,005, 835 active cases of the virus.

    Brazil is next with 1, 713, 160 confirmed cases, 69,184 deaths, while 1,158,394 Brazilians have recovered, leaving the country with 485,  582 active cases, followed by India which has documented 767, 296 confirmed cases, 21, 129 deaths, while   476,378 Indians  have recovered, leaving the country with 269, 789 active cases of Coronavirus.

    Russia is next with 706, 240 confirmed cases,  10,826 deaths, while 480, 494 Russians have recovered, leaving Russia with 214, 920 active cases, followed by Peru with  316, 448 confirmed cases,  11, 314 deaths while 207, 802 Peruvians have recovered leaving the country with 97, 332 active cases of Coronavirus, followed by  Chile with 306,216 confirmed cases, 6, 682 deaths, while 274,922 Chileans have recovered, leaving Chile with 24, 612 actives cases.

    Next is the United Kingdom with 289, 154 confirmed cases, 44, 687 deaths, while  1, 378 others have recovered, leaving the U.K with 243,089 active cases, followed by Mexico with 275, 003 confirmed cases, 33,526 deaths, while 219, 628 Mexicans have recovered, leaving Mexico with 21, 849 active cases of Coronavirus.

    Spain is next with 253, 056 confirmed cases,  28, 401 deaths, while 150, 376  people have recovered, leaving Spain with 74, 279 active cases, followed by  Iran with 250, 458 confirmed cases,  12, 305 deaths, while 212,176 Iranians have recovered, leaving Iran with 25,977 active cases, followed by Italy with 242, 363 confirmed cases, 34, 926 deaths, while 193,978 Italians have recovered, leaving Italy with 13, 459 active cases.

    France is next with 207, 356 confirmed cases,   29, 982 deaths, while 78, 295 people have recovered, leaving France with 99,079 active cases and China where the pandemic was first reported. China has documented  84, 992 confirmed cases,  4, 641 deaths, while 79, 802 Chinese have recovered, leaving China with 549 active cases of Coronavirus.
