ONITSHA, Nigerian-  An Anambra state youth, Mr Victor Okwudili, has said that he planned to midwife a new platform, the National Youth Congress (NYC) as a political party for youths in Nigeria who are ready to move the country forward.

Okwudili, who made the disclosure in a statement in Awka on Wednesday, said that he believed in  a ‘New Nigeria’ that was realisable through the progressive party ideology.

According to him, NYC has met all the required needs for registration by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), as one of the viable political parties in Nigeria. He said that NYC would provide youths an alternative to the old parties that did not carter for their welfare.

“We are a coalition of angry patriotic youths, who want a change from the old norm to a new and better Nigeria. The military shooting of unarmed protesters is a sign that the older generation do not want us.We should be united as young people and be strong for the future and our children yet unborn,” the convener said

Okwudili urged the Nigerian youth to mobilise themselves and join NYC, as an ‘alternative to the old parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressive Congress (APC), the All Progressives Grand Alliance  (APGA)  among others.’

He argued that there was need for a paradigm shift to get things working and move the country forward. The NYC convener said notable political parties in the country had brought unprecedented catastrophe and monumental failure as witnessed in the on-going protest.

Okwudili said: “From the day of Independence of Nigeria in 1960, we have witnessed formation of different political parties with different ideologies without bringing unity, peace or solve the needs of Nigerians.

“The yearning for youth inclusion in the Politics and Governance of Nigeria got a new face when the Federal Government gave credence to Not too Young to Run Act. The Act has made it imperative for the youth to add value to our nation’s political system, make contributions and plant new ideas that will place our country in an enviable height.

“To achieve the reason for the Not Too Young To Run Act; Nigerian youths must realise that such will not be actualised in PDP, APC or other political parties, whose stock in trade is gerontocracy and continuous recycling of selfish leaders without plan for the youth,” he added.

He explained that the mission and objectives of NYC was to give young leaders a platform to expand, explore and devote themselves to the service of the people.

He added that the proposed party would  promote equal opportunities for young and old, delivering unlimited abundance and prosperity to every Nigerian in a bound of love. Okwudili called on youths across the country to queue behind NYC as it would give them the desired expectations they yearn for.

“The future and progress of Nigeria depends largely on the youth, who have the vigor, energy, and zeal to make meaningful impacts in the progress of Nigeria,” he said.
