LAGOS, Nigeria – The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa has said that his command has made arrest of some electoral offenders during the governorship and house of assembly election in Lagos.
The CP, who was speaking on Channels TV did not state the number of people arrested but said that the police is compiling reports which he said will be made available in due course.
“We are compiling incidents and arrests have been made, and all most all the ballot boxes snatched were recovered”, he said, adding that the exercise was peaceful and secure in Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikoyi, and other parts of Lagos that he visited.
He confirmed that there are incidents in Lagos that could affect the election but that they were not wide spread and that most incidents were promptly responded to by police.
On the young man who was beaten to stupor for snatching ballot box at Okota, he said the young man is not dead contrary to reports.
“He is alive, he was rescued by police and he is now receiving medical attention, and not dead”, he said.
He said there were no major challenge in Eti-Osa but VGC which had to do more with relocation of polling units from within estate to outside the gate.
He said the police responded swiftly to incidents at Ago Palace Way but that there was no collusion with perpetrators.
He said the police on duty have mandate to protect election materials adding that he is yet to receive a single report of police collusion but commendation.
