FIFA supremo Gianni Infantino has sensationally called for the ban on Russia to be scrapped—insisting that freezing them out of world football has been a total “own goal.”
In a move set to spark a massive touchline row, the football chief claimed that the ongoing exile of Russian teams has failed to fix anything since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Speaking on the controversial decision to sideline the 2018 World Cup hosts, Infantino argued that the beautiful game should be used as a bridge, not a barrier.
’Frustration and Hatred’
The FIFA president didn’t pull any punches, suggesting that the current policy is actually making the global situation worse.
”We have to lift the
ban on Russia,” Infantino declared. “This ban has not achieved anything; it has just created more frustration and hatred.”
The 55-year-old boss, who has often faced heat for his ties to world leaders, is now pushing for a “no-fly zone” on political bans in sport.
His message to the footballing world was simple: Never ban any country from playing football.
