AWKA, Anambra – The embattled chairman of Tricycle Owners Association Of Nigeria, TOAN Anambra state chapter comrade Sylvester Obiora has stated that nobody has removed him.
Obiora who spoke to journalists on Wednesday in Awka, Anambra state said the allegation of his sack was not correct. Recall that a Caretaker Executive was set up by the Tricycle operators headed by Mr Elvis Okolie and Chinedu Ibuzor as Secretary thereby removing the Sylvester Obiora led executive.
Obiora executive was accused of high handedness and ripping-off of unsuspecting members of the association as well as not remitting taxes to the account of the state government.
Sylvester Obiora said he is not aware of any letter addressed to him that he has been removed from office as chairman of TOAN by anybody or group. He contended that those claiming to be new executive of the association do not have the mandate of the tricycle operators, noting that his administration has been instrumental to galvanizing the tricycle sector .
“I am not aware of any letter or any official statement containing my removal from office and I still remain the leader of the Tricycle Owners Association Of Nigeria TOAN.
“I am also not aware of any new Caretaker Executive of the association and it is important to note that under my watch as the Chairman I have been able to galvanize the tricycle sector for the state government and we have been partnering very well, “he said.
According to him, those alleging sharp practices in the association do not have any proof whatsoever to back up their claims .
“Those allegations are unfounded and there is no proof whatsoever to substantiate their claims but if the state government feels that the only way to achieve it’s set objectives is my removal from office so be it but as far as I am concerned there is nothing to show that I have been removed from office”; he said
