Not less than 43,000 drivers’ licenses have been abandoned in the various offices of the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) following refusal by applicants to collect them.

Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa who made the observation in Lagos, called on those who applied for the new Universal Drivers License (UDL) and completed processing by August 2013, to visit the licensing centres where they applied to collect the document.

He said that the state government has increased processing points from six (6) to twelve (12) so as to cope with the volume of applicants in the state, stressing that Lagos is working hard to resolve challenges posed by inadequate data capture machines deployed in the exercise by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

He also appealed to all those who are yet to renew their license to do so immediately since the deadline for renewal is June 2014.
