    Nigeria confirms 51 new cases of COVID-19 as 154,350 die globally

    2, 256, 844 cases globally, US leads with 706,779 cases

    LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has confirmed 51 new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the total number of cases in Nigeria to 493.

    Out of the fresh 51 cases, 32 were confirmed in Lagos, 6 in Kano, 5 in Kwara, 2 in Abuja, 2 in Oyo, 2 in Katsina, 1 in Ogun and 1 in Ekiti State, the NCDC said, adding that out of the 493 cases, 159 patients have been discharged after treatment while 17 patients have died.

    “Fifty-one new cases of #COVID19 have been reported; 32 in Lagos 6 in Kano 5 in Kwara 2 in FCT 2 in Oyo 2 in Katsina 1 in Ogun 1 in Ekiti As at 10:10 pm 17th April there are 493 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 159 Deaths: 17”, the NCDC said in a statement.

    Confirmed cases in Nigeria climbed up to 493 just as a tota of 2, 256, 844 cases have been confirmed worldwide, while 154, 350 patients have died.

    According to the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, John Hopkins University, the United States has continued to take the lead among the most affected countries globally, reporting a total of 706,779 confirmed cases with 37, 079 deaths. Spain has reported 190, 839 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 20,002 deaths while Italy currently reports 172, 434 confirmed cases with 22,745 deaths.

    France has reported 149, 130 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, while 18, 703 patients have died. As for Germany, there are a total of 141, 397 confirmed cases with 4, 352 deaths.

    The United Kingdom has reported 109,769 with 14, 607 deaths, while China still has 83, 784 confirmed cases with 4, 636 deaths.
