    Ngige son, 55 others inducted as medical doctors in COOU

    ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Dr. Raphael Ngige , the first son of  the Minister of Labour and Productivity,  Senator Chris Ngige  and 55 others from  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University COOU  medical college ,Amaku, Awka  were on Monday inducted as medical doctors at the institution’s auditorium.

    Dr.  Raphael  Ngige and others were the sixth set that graduated from the institution as medical doctors since inception in 2005.

    Speaking , shortly after induction, the minister said that he was proud and happy that his first son graduated from the University he signed into existence as governor of Anambra state.

    According to Ngige , he is a proud Nigerian and would do everything  possible to support the growth of Nigerian institutions. He said that Ojukwu University  medical college has everything that  proud parent need to train their children.

    He called on other well to do Nigerians to train their children in Nigerian institutions as part of efforts in rehabilitating public institutions in the country.

    ” Rich Nigerians should patronise Nigerian universities by sending their children to study there. The only way to build a world  class institution in the country is to patronise them and pay attention to them. If our children are in those local universities, we will do something to make them the best in the world” he said.

    Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Greg Nwakoby represented by  Emeritius Professor of the institution, Prof Frank Akpuaka   said the institution followed all required steps in graduating the students despite the COVID-19 pandemic and that they trained the students, examined and graded them according to   the best professional practices.

    “We went through the normal process and graduated them  in academic and character” he said.

    Administering  the Hippocratic Oath  on the medical doctors, the Registrar  Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN Dr . T.B. Sanusi commended the institution for graduating the doctors without compromising standard.

    He said he is sure that the new doctors would meet  global expectations in the medical  profession. He challenge the new doctors to live up to the expectations of their professional calling which was to protect and save lives.

    Sanusi said that anyone found   wanting in the course of  practicing would have his or her  operational licenses withdrawn.

    ” Your main job is to save lives  and money will come in after saving life” he said . The provost of the college, Prof W.C Nwafia in his own urged the newly inducted doctors  to pursue their career with full respect to the ethic of the profession.

    According to him, the college has trained them in the best practices and challenge them not go against the training given to them because of material things.
