ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Fifteen unemployed youths in Anambra state have been engaged in temporary jobs under the 2020 Graduate Attachment Programme(GAP) of National Directorate of Employment, NDE. The beneficiaries were posted to various corporate organisations in Anambra state to serve for an initial period of three months.
The state Coordinator of NDE, Mrs Chika Ufele, while addressing the beneficiaries Friday in Awka said that the beneficiaries would be paid monthly stipend of N15,000 each. Ufele said that after the internship programme which started since November 2, the beneficiaries may likely secure permanent jobs at their place of primary assignment as well as becoming self-employed.
According to her, the programme which is part of the 2020 Graduate Attachment Programme(GAP) is replicated in the 36 states of the federation and FCT. She said that it would be part of the total number of 1,850 jobs to be created nationwide.
“The aim of GAP is to address the alarming level of graduate unemployment among the youths by providing them with transient jobs,” she said.
The Coordinator further noted that the department through GAP promotes mass employment strategies through the attachment of qualified graduates to willing employers of labour on tutelage for three to six months.
She urged them to put in their best to the programme and thanked the Director General of NDE, Dr. Nasiru Mohammed for his readiness in approving the implementation of the laudable programmes.
