Middlesex, July 22, 2016 – Television presenters Gary Lineker and Mark Wright made a surprise appearance at ‘British Airways Fun Run’ event yesterday (July 21), to mark the airline raising £1 million for Cancer Research UK.

As many as 12,000 runners have taken part in the annual fundraiser, since it started 17 years ago.

Mark Wright, said: “It’s an honor to be involved in ‘British Airways Fun Run’ which has raised such a huge amount of money for Cancer Research UK. Congratulations to everyone who has taken part, donated or contributed in some way – you are inspiring.”

The event was hosted at the airline’s parkland headquarters in Harmondsworth, Middlesex. Runners can take part in a 5k or 10k run, plus there’s a special 1k run (walk or toddle), for children under 10. As well as airline staff, locals can join in the activities too.

Gary Lineker, said: “A huge congratulations to everyone at British Airways who helped to raise a staggering £1 million for such a worthy charity.”

British Airways colleague and event organiser, Beverly Pearce, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us reach this incredible £1 million milestone figure over the years. It is both humbling and a tremendous achievement, going to a great cause in Cancer Research UK.”

Catherine Irving, senior local fundraising manager at Cancer Research UK, adds: “We’re delighted that British Airways is supporting us again this year and would like to thank everyone who has taken part to help fund our life-saving work.

“Cancer Research UK receives no government funding for its ground-breaking research, so funds raised through supporters like British Airways is crucial to the work of the doctors, nurses and scientists who work day and night to beat cancer sooner.”

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research.
