ENUGU RANGERS produced a second-half masterclass to overturn a deficit and sink Enyimba 2-1 in a pulsating “Nigerian Clasico.” In a clash that lived up to its billing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, the Flying Antelopes proved they have the stomach for a title fight, coming from behind to secure all three points and climb to the summit of the NPFL.
Williams Silences the Cathedral
The game, played behind closed doors, lacked the usual roar of the Enugu faithful, but the intensity on the pitch was electric from the first whistle.
After a cagey first half that ended goalless, the visitors struck first. Just four minutes after the restart, Wonah Williams stunned the hosts. The Enyimba star, continuing his red-hot form, broke the deadlock in the 49th minute with a clinical finish that momentarily put a dent in Rangers’ championship aspirations.
The Iwundu Inspiration
Rangers manager Fidelis Ilechukwu needed a hero, and he found one in Chidozie Iwundu.
The star forward, who has been attracting attention from scouts as far as London, dragged his side back into the contest.
In the 61st minute, Iwundu showcased why he is one of the league’s most feared marksmen, netting his ninth goal of the campaign with a strike of pure conviction.
The momentum swung instantly, and the “Cathedral” felt the weight of a Rangers side sensing blood.
With the game hanging in the balance, it was Ifeanyi Onyebuchi who delivered the knockout blow. In the 68th minute, Onyebuchi popped up with a decisive finish to complete the turnaround, sparking wild celebrations among the Rangers bench.
Enyimba, the “People’s Elephant,” fought to find an equalizer but found themselves thwarted by a resolute Rangers defense. The defeat leaves Enyimba looking over their shoulders at the wrong end of the table, while Rangers now sit in the driving seat with just three games remaining in the 2025-26 season.
“That is the kind of test that defines seasons,” remarked one analyst. “To come from behind in a derby with the title on the line is the mark of champions.”
