THE OLUYOLE Warriors proved they are the real deal in the NPFL title race after a sensational Qamar Adegoke brace secured a 2-1 smash-and-grab victory against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.
While the desert heat usually wilts visiting teams, Shooting Stars shone brighter than ever, coming from behind to snatch all three points and keep their continental dreams firmly on track.
The home side started like a house on fire, and it wasn’t long before they had the Maiduguri faithful dreaming of a blowout. J. Zakka broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, poking home a scrappy effort after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
At halftime, the Warriors looked in control, but the Stars were merely waiting for the clouds to clear.
The second half was the Qamar Adegoke show. Just sixty seconds after the restart, the lethal marksman silenced the home crowd, ghosting into the box to level the scores with a clinical finish.
The match looked destined for a stalemate as El-Kanemi’s defense held firm under a barrage of late pressure. But with just four minutes of regular time remaining, Adegoke struck again. Capitalizing on a lapse in concentration, he fired home in the 86th minute to complete the turnaround and send the traveling fans into delirium.
The result leaves Shooting Stars breathing down the necks of the top four, moving them to 54 points and within touching distance of the leaders. For El-Kanemi, it’s a bitter pill to swallow as they remain mired in mid-table mediocrity.
3SC boss Nurudeen Aweroro will be over the moon with the grit shown by his side. If they keep shooting like this, the sky is the limit!
