LIMBE, Cameroon – After 120 minutes of tension on the field of play at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON in Cameroon, it was Equatorial Guinea that got the upper hand, beating Mali 6-5 on penalties at the 20,000 capacity Limbe Omnisport Stadium.

Ironically, both West African teams are well known for solid soccer and  fans were not disappointed that the  game  dragged on into extra time with no team, leading on the scoreboard even though Mali had the greatest ball  possession, securing 58 percent as against 42 by Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea equally had the highest number of Yellow cards, 4 in number against 1 by Mali. Mali had 2 shots on target at the close of play against 1 by Equatorial Guinea.

It also had 6 corner kicks against 2 by the opposing side, showing Mali to be a better side on the pitch but it could not hold on during the penalty shootouts at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
