July 14, 2014 – The embattled Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako has been impeached by Adamawa House Assembly while the House approved resignation of his Deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari.

Nyako was impeached even at the governor and his deputy were reported to have fled Government House ahead of the impeachment. Nyako and his deputy refused to attend the hearing on allegations of financial impropriety against them forcing the committee to seat without them.

The committee submitted the report to the House Monday making the impeachment inevitable.

There are reports that his Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari resigned earlier to save himself the embarrassment of impeachment.

Mr. Ngilari’s resignation letter was read at plenary by the speaker of the Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, after which the lawmakers approved it.

The house sat today amidst high security presence on the road leading to the Assembly and inside the complex. Speaker of the House, Umaru Fintiri will not step in as Acting Governor of the state.
