LAGOS, Nigeria – The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu(ABAT) campaign and the All Progressive Congress, APC have been accused of intellectual property theft by the Fela Anikulapo Kuti Estate.

The ABAT is hit with this scandal bothering on the use of Fela’s iconic music, ‘Eko Ile’ just few days after the campaign team made use of the 12 year old photograph of former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke as the photograph of the Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in promotional materials.

While the media team said it has called Donald Duke to apologise for the mix up, describing it as a honest mistake, the Estate of Fela Anikulapo Kuti today issued a disclaimer telling ABAT  that the permission of the estate was not sought before the media team deployed the music in promotional materials.

“We the Administrator of the Estate of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti issue this disclaimer;  We wish to state here for clarity that the pemission of the  estate was not sought for the use of fela’s music Eko Ile in the All Progressive Congress social media  campaign currently making the rrounds.

“We do not involve Fela’s music in any political campaign at home or abroad and chose to remain neutral.  While we wish all candidates the best, we demand that the laws of the federal republic of Nigeria are abided by and intellectual property rights  are respected”, The Estate of Fela Anikulapo Kuti said.
