    Coronavirus: Active cases in Nigeria drop to 11, 884; Brazil records 110, 291 new cases, see top 12

    LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has confirmed 354 new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total number in the country to 45,244  cases.

    But out of the 45, 244 confirmed cases, 32,430 patients have been discharged, while 930  others could not make it alive, leaving Nigeria with 11, 884 active cases of the Coronavirus pandemic.

    Breakdown of the 354 new cases is as follows, Abuja-78,Lagos-76, Kaduna-23, Ebonyi-19, Oyo-18, Nasarawa-17, Rivers-17, Delta-16, Kwara-15, Akwa Ibom-13, Edo-12, Ogun-12, Plateau-11, Kano-9, Bauchi-6, Borno-6 and Ekiti-6.

    “NCDC@NCDC354 new cases of #COVID19Nigeria; FCT-78,Lagos-76, Kaduna-23, Ebonyi-19, Oyo-18, Nasarawa-17, Rivers-17, Delta-16, Kwara-15, Akwa Ibom-13, Edo-12, Ogun-12, Plateau-11, Kano-9, Bauchi-6, Borno-6, Ekiti-6;  45,244 confirmed; 32,430 discharged; 930 deaths”, the NCDC said in a statement.

    Globally, confirmed cases currently stand at 18, 986, 629. There are now 712, 334 deaths, while 11, 477, 834 others have been able to recover from the pandemic based on statistics from the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland.

    According to the centre, the United States still leads in the league of most affected countries, reporting 4, 876,  790 cases, 159, 931 deaths, while 1, 598, 624 others have recovered, leaving the United States with 3, 118, 235 active cases of the pandemic(65, 662 new cases in the last 24 hours), followed by Brazil which has documented  2, 912, 212 cases,  98, 493 deaths, while 2, 230, 542 others have been discharged, leaving Brazil with 583, 177 active cases(110, 291 new cases in the last 24 hours), followed by India with 1, 964, 536 confirmed cases, 40, 699 deaths, while 1,328,336 others have recovered, leaving India with 595, 501 active cases of the pandemic(56, 282 new cases in the last 24 hours).

    Russia is next(3) with 870, 187 confirmed cases, 14, 579 deaths, while 675, 069 others have been able to recover, leaving Russia with 180, 539 active cases of the pandemic, followed by  South Africa(SA) in the 5th spot in the ranks of most affected countries.

    South Africa  has documented 538, 184 confirmed cases 9, 604 deaths, while 387, 316 others have recovered, leaving SA with 141, 264 active cases of the pandemic(8, 307 new cases), followed by Mexico with  456, 100 confirmed cases, 49, 698 deaths, while 361, 764 others have been discharged from isolation centres, leaving Mexico with 44, 638 active cases.

    Peru is 7th on the list with 447, 624 confirmed cases, 20, 228 deaths, while 306, 430 others have been able to recover, leaving Peru with 120, 966 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Chile 366, 671 confirmed cases, 9,889 deaths, while 340, 168 others have been discharged. 

    Chile is left with 16, 614 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Colombia(9th) in the rank, with 345, 714 confirmed cases, 11, 624 deaths, while 186,317 others have been able to recover, leaving Colombia with  147, 773 active cases of the virus, followed by Iran, which has reported 320, 117 cases from the onset, 17, 976 deaths, while  277,463 others have been discharged, leaving Iran with 26, 678 active cases of the pandemic, followed by  Spain(11) with 309, 855 cases from the onset of the virus, 28, 500 deaths, while 150, 376 others have been able to recover, leaving Spain with 130, 979 active cases(4, 088 new cases), followed by United Kingdom which has presented  309, 784 confirmed cases, 46, 498 deaths, while only 1, 447 patients have been able to recover since the onset of the pandemic(2,526 new cases in the last 24 hours) and then Italy(15) with 249, 204 cases, 35, 187 deaths, while 201, 323 others have recovered. Italy is left with 12, 694 active cases of the pandemic(401 new cases in the last 24 hours) and then China now pushed to the 29th most affected country in the world.

    China  has presented 88,423 cases since the onset of the virus, 4, 678 deaths, while 81, 563 people have been able to recover, leaving China with 2, 182 active cases of the virus.
