    LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 288 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, making a total of 44,129 confirmed cases in the country just as the global figure has crossed the 18 million mark.

    Out of the 44, 129 confirmed cases, 20,663 patients have been discharged, while 896 others have passed on, leaving Nigeria with 22, 570 active cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

    Breakdown of the 288 new cases is as follows, Lagos-88, Kwara-33, Osun-27,  Abuja-25, Enugu-25, Abia-20, Kaduna-17, Plateau-13, Rivers-13, Delta-10, Gombe-8, Ogun-4, Oyo-3, Katsina-1 and Bauchi-1, making a total of 288 new cases.

    Meanwhile, the global statistics for the pandemic has crossed the 18 million mark. The centre for Systems Science and Engineering Johns Hopkins University, Maryland reports that there are currently  18,  178, 736 confirmed cases worldwide,  691, 111 deaths, while 10, 835, 789 others have recovered.

    The United States still leads with a total  4, 710, 282 confirmed cases,  155, 331 deaths while 1, 414, 155 others have recovered, leaving the U.S with 3, 140, 796 active cases(52,589 new cases), followed by Brazil which has reported 2, 733, 677 cases,  94, 104 deaths, while 2, 093, 405 others have recovered, leaving Brazil with 546, 168 active cases(25, 800 new cases), followed by India, which has documented 1, 803, 695 cases of the pandemic, 38, 135 deaths, while 1, 186, 203 others have been discharged. India is now left with 579, 357 active cases of the pandemic (52, 972 new cases).

    Russia is next with 854, 641 cases, 14, 183 deaths, while 652, 372 patients have been discharged, leaving Russia with 188,086 active cases, followed by South Africa, which has documented  516, 862 confirmed cases, 8, 539 deaths, while 358, 037 patients have recovered, leaving South Africa with 150, 286 active cases of the virus(5, 377 new cases), followed by Mexico, which has reported 439, 046 confirmed cases, 47, 746 deaths, while 342,527 patients have been discharged, leaving Mexico with 48, 773 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Peru with 428, 850 confirmed cases,  19, 614 deaths, while 294,187 patients have recovered, leaving Peru with 115, 049 active cases of the pandemic.

    Chile is next, with  361, 493 cases, 9, 707 deaths, while 333, 976 patients have been discharged, leaving Chile with 17, 810 active cases of the pandemic, and Colombia in the 9th spot in the league of most affected countries has reported 317, 432 confirmed cases, 10, 646 deaths, while 167, 144 others have recovered, leaving Colombia with 139, 642 active cases of the virus, followed by Iran(10) with 312, 035 confirmed cases, 17, 405 deaths, while 270, 228 patients have been discharged, leaving Iran with 24, 402 active cases of the pandemic.

    The United Kingdom, now 11th in the league of most affected countries has reported 307, 251 confirmed cases, 46,295 deaths, while only 1, 444 patients have recovered since the onset of the pandemic in the United Kingdom, leaving the U.K with 259, 512 actives cases of the pandemic(936 new cases and 9 deaths in the last 24 hours), followed by Spain(12) with 297, 054 confirmed cases, 28, 472 deaths, while 150, 376 patients have been discharged, leaving Spain with  118, 206 active cases of the pandemic(8, 532 new cases and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours).

    Italy(15) in the league has reported 248, 229 confirmed cases, 35, 166 deaths, while 200, 589 others have been discharged, leaving Italy with 12, 474 active cases(159 new cases and 12 deaths in the last 24 hours) and then China, where the pandemic was first reported.

    China (28) has reported 88,065 confirmed cases, 4, 672 deaths, while 81, 096 others have recovered, leaving China with 2, 297  active cases, up by 31 new cases.
