BIELEFELD – Arminia Bielefeld players will cover the costs of match tickets for fans for the first-leg of their relegation play-off game against Wehen Wiesbaden on Friday.

Bielefeld finished 17th in the second division standings and will now fight to remain in Germany’s second-tier competition against Wiesbaden, who were fourth in the third league.

Freiburg’s under-23 team were second, but due to league rules, they need to stay two divisions below their professional squad. Therefore, third-placed VfL Osnabrück were directly promoted, while Wiesbaden got the chance to achieve the same in the play-offs.

Some 1,879 tickets will be available for the Bielefeld fans in the first game.

“For us, as a team, this is a very important sign to our very loyal fans. Only together we can stay in the league,” captain Fabian Klos was quoted in a club statement on Monday.

The free tickets will be available online from May 30. Bielefeld play the second leg at home on June 6.
