July 12, 2014 – The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, (ASUP) has suspended the 10-month old strike it embarked upon to press home their demands for better condition of service.

ASUP embarked on the strike in October 2013 but today suspended the strike.
Publicity Secretary of ASUP, Clement Chirman who announced the suspension said academic activities would resume in all polytechnics and mono-technics nationwide from Tuesday July 15th.

He said ASUP leadership held a fruitful meeting with the Minister of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekerau after which it decided to suspend the strike in the interest of the nation and the students.

ASUP embarked on an indefinite strike in October, 2013 to press home its demand for improvement in the condition of service and infrastructure in government-owned polytechnics, mono-technics and colleges of technology.

It also demands that the Federal Government should remove dichotomy between HND and degree holders and release the White Paper on the NEEDS assessment of polytechnics and review of the Polytechnic Act by the National Assembly, among others.
It is not clear if these demands have been met.
