ABUJA, Nigeria – The fight against corruption is getting messy, this time with the table turning against President Buhari, who appears to be the only clean politician in Nigeria.
It was in Abuja, during the trial of Justice Adeniyi Ademola. The witness, who was testifying before the Federal High Court in Abuja said the President did give Justice Adeniyi Ademola the sum of N500,000 in the heat of the certificate scandal when the matter was pending before his court.
The witness who said he does not consider the monetary advancement by President Buhari to the judge as bribe said the money was given to the Judge through Buhari’s former lawyer, Mr. Kola Awodeyin.
Mr. Ademola is being prosecuted by the Nigerian government along with his wife Olubowale and Joe Agi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria for alleged corruption. He has denied the charges and requested accelerated hearing at the trial in Abuja.
An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Mr. Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe had filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja challenging the qualification of President Muhammadu Buhari prior to the election.
Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe had alleged that Buhari was unqualified to aspire to the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because he did not sit for the Cambridge West African School Certificate WASC) in 1961 as he claimed.
