Bayern’s Tuchel speaks on Harry Kane
MUNICH – Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel remained vague on Tuesday on the chances of landing England captain Harry Kane, after Bayern bosses reportedly met with Tottenham Hotspur officials the previous day.
Tuchel only said on the eve of Bayern’s pre-season game in Singapore against Liverpool that “we know which players we want” and they would not be looking alternatives.
“We have clear decisions,” he said, adding that “we won’t be rushed” in a transfer window open for another month.
Bayern have made forward Kane, who turned 30 last week and for now continues with Spurs to train for their Ausgust 13 Premier League opener, their top transfer target.
Tuchel reportedly met with the player in May and Kane has reportedly expressed his willingness to join the 11-time reigning Bundesliga champions who – unlike Spurs – will play in the next Champions League.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe were reportedly in London on Monday to meet with Spurs officials.
The Athletic portal reported that the clubs were $32 million apart in their valuation, that an agreement was yet to be reached but that the two clubs were remaining in contact.
Bayern are said to have had bids of €70 million ($77 million) and €80 million rejected and are reportedly preparing another big with a base sum of €87 million, plus add-ons.
English reports said that Spurs want at least £100 million ($128 million) for Kane whose contract expires in 2024. Club owner Joe Lewis has reportedly told CEO Daniel Levy to sell Kane if he doesn’t renew his contract.
