PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi has explained why he did not visit the governorship candidate of the party in River State during his invitation to commission projects in Port Harcourt.
There has been insinuation online that Peter Obi deliberately refused to visit Beatrice Itubo, the governorship candidate of LP when he arrived Port Harourt on invitation of the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Reacting to the development, Peter Obi said he was not away that the candidate was sick but apologised to her for the inadvertent oversight.
He said he was welcomed to PH by Labour Party Presidential State Coordinator in Rivers State and other party stakeholders, adding that he told them that purpose of his visit was to honour the River State Governor.
He said he however promised to return for the party’s rally and other state engagements soon but that no one mentioned that Itubo was sick adding that as he promised, he passed through the party secretariat in River State at 6:30 pm.
He wished Beatrice Itubo quick recovery and a good working relationship.
“My sincere apologies to Mrs Beatrice Itubo, the Labour Party candidate in Rivers State for an inadvertent oversight. When I visited Port Harcourt a few days back, I was not informed or aware of her sickness.
“On arrival in PH, I was welcomed by the Labour Party Presidential State Coordinator in Rivers State and other Party stakeholders. We had a useful meeting and I explained to them the purpose of my visit, which was to respectfully honour an invitation by the Rivers State Government and that I will return for our party’s rally and other LP engagements soon.
“No one mentioned that our candidate was sick, otherwise I would have visited her before or after the event. I had committed to passing through the campaign office no matter how late, and that I did at about 6.30pm.
“My dear sister, I sincerely wish you a very quick recovery and reassure you of our good working relationship. May God Almighty bless you always:”, he said. -PO
