BERLIN – The German Football Federation (DFB) wants to extend the contract with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann until 2028, the Bild newspaper reported late on Wednesday.
Nagelsmann took over from Hansi Flick in September 2023 and his current deal runs until after the 2026 World Cup. But the DFB has already initiated talks with him for a possible two-year extension, the Bild report said.
The report added that Nagelsmann is also interested in keeping his job and in leading the team into the Euro 2028 in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
This year in particular, Germany has impressed under Nagelsmann’s direction. With 10 wins, four draws and just one defeat, and a 35-10 goal balance, the result was positive.
Their only setback was the Euro 2024 exit in the quarter-finals after a defeat in extra-time to eventual champions Spain.
