INEC denies commencing investigation into Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in United States

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has denied commencing investigation into criminal forfeiture of $460,000 in the United States of America by the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC,  Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The United States has issued a Certified True Copy of the forfeited sum in a heroine  related case involving Bola Ahmed Tinubu et all.

Cited as case no. 93 c 4483-j- Nordberg United States of America as Plaintiff, while Bola Tinubu et all were the defendants , the CTC has the stamp of Thomas G. Bruton, Clerk and Johnny Khuu , Deputy Clerk  U.S District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division and dated August 10, 2022.

But in a statement, INEC said a press release purported to have been issued by the Commission has been trending online since yesterday Friday 11th November 2022.

According to INEC, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and  Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye  said the purported statement claims that the Commission has commenced investigation into a case of criminal forfeiture against one of  the Presidential candidates in the forthcoming General Election and is liaising with a Court in the United States of America in pursuit of same to determine possible violation of our guidelines or the Electoral Act 2022.

He said the said Press Release did not emanate from the Commission nor is it pursuing the purported course of action.

“ It is the handiwork of mischief makers and utterly fake”, Okoye said, adding that press releases from the Commission are uploaded to the INEC Press Corps platform”, he said.
