LAGOS, Nigeria – INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye has said that the Independent National Electoral is investigating the viral video in circulation where thousands of PVCs were buried at a location yet unknown.
He said initially, there were speculation that it took place in Imo State but that it has been narrowed to Rivers State. He called on those who shot the video to come out with information so that INEC will know the exact location and put a closure to the issue.
“We had a closed door meeting in our office yesterday as soon as we returned from Osun State to investigate our readiness for the election”, he said.
He said about 78 percent of PVCs in INEC office have been collected, adding that INEC will now segregate the PVCs according to Local Governments and Wards, adding that the remaining ones will be quarantined until the Osun election is over.
He said sensitive materials have already been moved to each of the local governments pending the election scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, July 16, 2022.
He said that INEC has improved on the electoral system to make ballot snatching unattractive since the results are uploaded onto the INEC portal.
He said any Nigerian with a valid smart phone with data should be able to log into INEC portal and view the results in real time but that the INEC officials on the ground are required to sign the relevant forms, to be countersigned by agents on the ground.
