ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria –  Barely three days to end the ongoing voters registration,  there has been a massive surge of Nigerians to registration centres; even as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC say most of those at the centres ought not to be there in the first place.

Our Correspondent who  , visited some   Independent National Electoral commission INEC  registration centre  found out  that many people were still not registered  by Sunday.

The centres at INEC headquarters , UNIZIK junction , Ekwueme complex point to the fact that capturing everybody before Sunday is illusive. However, some of the machines are not fully functional.

Some of the people who had come to register expressed disappointment over the malfunctioning machine and their inability to register.

Reacting to the development, Anambra State INEC Head of Voter Education Barr. George Edeani said that the registration is going on smoothly and progressing well.

According to him, before the end of the registration , many people would be captured in the state. Also speaking to our correspondent , the Head of  Information and Communication Technology  and Voter Registration Anambra state  Engr. Emeka Nnaji said that many people who come for registration at the centres  are not suppose to visit registration centres.

According to him, these people are creating problems to the smooth progress of registration. According to him, only those who needed capturing can visit registration centre while those for transfer and update can  do them  on their mobile device at home .

He said that people are not asking question before setting out for the registration, stressing that INEC has been announcing that only new registrant can visit centres.

Nnaji said that many people are doing double registration and they are doing so for monetary purpose because one politician or the other have given them money to go and register and bring their slips to them.

“We are doing bimodal registration, any person with double registration will be deleted in the system” he said According to him, the malfunctioning of the machines is due to  stress to the network  , noting that they are high traffic in the network now. The traffic is slowing down registration, even now  making calls now are difficult .
