ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has stated that he will retire into a private life after 17th March 2022 at the expiration of his eight as governor of Anambra state .
The outgoing governor made the revelation at his country home Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, shortly after touring some legacy projects he built in the state. The projects are the Anambra state international cargo and passengers Airport , Umueri and Anambra International Convention Centre ICC Awka.
The governor said he was happy and proud of the achievements he made in the Anambra as a governor ,noting that he wants to rest after handing over on 17th March 2022.
” I’ am not eyeing any other political position after eight years as a governor of Anambra State . I am not interested in any other political position. I want to rest. Please, let me come out from the one I am already into . I am grateful to God.
“When I came in as a governor I was fresh and better. But now I have slimed and shrink up ,because I worked day and night to lift Anambra to greater height. I knew that I had many sleepless nights to ensure that I did the many projects, I did for Anambra people.
“I am happy and I want to say I have done well. I have done well as a governor ,I don’t need anybody to tell me that I have done well, I knew I have done well ” he emphasised.
According to Obiano he built the Anambra international airport , stadium and the state International convention centre and other projects in the state without borrowing any kobo from anybody or financial institution .
He said all the money used in the executions of those projects were Anambra state money , noting that it was possible due his prudence in fund management.
Obiano also revealed that in two weeks time, an international flight from the fleets of Ethiopian Airlines would land at the Anambra international cargo and passenger airport to confirm it’s international status.
He further disclosed that within the week , he shall be commissioning various project in the state, amongst include the international conference centre would be opened on 9th, March 2022.
“If you know me, you will agree that I’m a man associated with class, and you can see class in all the projects I did for Anambra people. The airport you see there is about the best in Sub-Saharan Africa, with some of the best facilities anywhere in the world.
“In terms of safety, it is the best, and has landing facilities that you can hardly find in any airport in Nigeria,” Obiano said. The governor confirmed that his wife , Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano would be contesting for Anambra north Senatorial seat next year.
