BORNO, Nigeria – A faction of Boko Haram referred to as the Isamic State of West Africa, ISWAP has declared Gudumbali, a town in Borno State as its headquarter in West Africa.
ISWAP said Gudumbali is now its Manhaja Jundun Khilafah Wylaya West Africa, SaharaReporters said, quoting report shared by the terrorists’ group on Monday.
Gudumbali, according to the online newspaper is located approximately 125 kilometres north of the state capital, Maiduguri. Unconfirmed reports have in the past indicated that Boko Haram has hosted flags in some local governments in Borno State and has started collecting taxes in areas within its domain.
Following the death of the notorious Boko Haram leader, , Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been having free reign around Lake Chad and has appointed Wali Sani Shuwaram, a 45-year-old as the new Leader (Wali) of ISWAP in Lake Chad.
