IKARE-AKOKO, Ondo, Nigeria – One of the topmost management staff of the National Youth Service Corps has declared that the only panacea against youth unemployment is the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme established by the scheme nine years ago.

“My dear corps members in the national service, we did not have access to such a beautiful and impactful programme during our time, otherwise someone like me would not have been a Public Servant as I would have voted for one of the skills or vocations under the programme”.

“Of a simple truth, your academic qualifications is worth celebrating and this can fend for you but you need to enhance your various degrees and diplomas so that you will not be caught up in the web of lack of adequate employment that has gone seriously down in recent times”.

The Director, Internal Audit who was once Head, Accounts at the NYSC Ondo State Secretariat said that NYSC has done much to stabilise this country more than any other establishments or programmes that one can ever think of.

“You are now part of NYSC Family nationwide which is specifically designed to foster unity among all the components that make up Nigeria. With the establishment of this laudable Scheme by General Yakubu Gowon administration on May, 1973, Nigerian youths are made to participate in the one year national service outside their states of origin or geopolitical zones”.

“Without fear of contradiction, the development the Scheme has brought to this nation through the selfless service of the patriotic and positive thinking members of the service corps cannot be underestimated. NYSC is prominent, pronounced and has been providing support in the field of education, agriculture, healthcare and provision of infrastructural facilities in all the nooks and crannies”.

“Your coming into the Scheme coincided with the forty eight anniversary celebrations of establishment of one of the enduring legacies that remains the platform for youth development and national integration. Give your best to the host communities and let your service speaks good things to keep Nigeria one” he said.

Mr. Abiodun thanked the collaborating agencies for their professionalism, commitment and sacrifice which has made the synergy to produce outstanding results. He thereafter charged the staff to be more committed to their duty and focused so that the Scheme can remain the shinning example to all and sundry. He charged the staff to continue to project the laudable programmes of NYSC to the outside world through their conduct and diligence.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani thanked the Director, Audit for being a generous giver and an incurable welfarist. Mrs. Ani disclosed that almost 1600 participants who registered for the service in Ondo State and those dislodged from Lagos State are worthy ambassadors of the Scheme as they are found to be exceptionally disciplined set of corps members.
