ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Immediate past president of Transcorp Conglomerates,  Mr. Valetine Ozigbo  on Wednesday said that the next governor of Anambra state must come from Anambra south senatorial  district .

Ozigbo who is one of the state governorship aspirants on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , who was fielding questions  from journalists via zoom meeting said that Anambra people have already zoned the governorship ticket to the South and that PDP should just respect the people .

According to him, the PDP should do the needful by zoning it’s ticket to south if the party must win the November 6 governorship election. He said that the last two governors of the  state came from Anambra north and central and that it is most honourable to allow the south to have the slot now .

According to Ozigbo , a research  conducted by  Eagle Badger an Abuja based organisation  commissioned by the Council on African World Affairs, a Washington DC based think tank favoured Anambra south as  producing the governor by over 62 percent .

” The putative argument behind this proposal is the principle of the rotation of  power, taking into consideration the fact that the last two governors elected in the state  have been from Anambra North and Anambra Central. Framed against the backdrop of  similar calls (and counter-calls) at the national level that the Presidency should rotate to the  South in 2023, this census set out to determine the attitude and appetite for power rotation  among selected PDP delegates ahead of the Anambra primaries. The results of the census may also be indicative of attitudes held by the wider society, particularly voters” he said .

He also that he is contesting the seat on merit and also as somebody from the south where the seat has been zoned to.

“I am confident that I will win the primary and subsequently the general election .I am running on merit and I am sure I will win both the ticket and the general election ” he said . According to him, the opinion poll conducted by an international organisation favoured him with 49. 63 percent in the election , while other are far behind him in rating .
