ONITSHA, Anambra – All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra State Chapter has chided governor, Willie Obiano, for always traveling out of the state to America instead of staying home to solve problems .
The party also lampooned the governor for imposing COVID-19 curfew on the state from the United States of America. Obiano had on Thursday from Huxton, USA, through a public announcement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwuwlobe imposed a curfew on the state from 9pm to 6am daily over increasing cases of COVID-19.
The Governor in the announcement threatened to shutdown markets if the traders continued to flout COVID-19 protocols. APC through ,the State Secretary, Chukwuma Agufugo blasted the governor in Awka,Anambra’ state capital during a briefing .
According to Agufugo, Obiano’s frequent abroad trips was a crass insensitivity to the state’s problems and needs. He that said the State House of Assembly and the All Progressives Grand Alliance should call the governor to order to save the state from catastrophic consequences of wasteful trips abroad .
Agufugo condemned the National Chairman of APGA for allegedly supporting the governor’s action. He commended the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige for expressing reservation over Obiano’s non-performance as a governor,
” I’m dismayed and disappointed about the reply of the National Chairman of APGA, Dr Victor Oye concerning the criticism by the leader of APC in Anambra State,Dr Chris Ngige about Obiano’s non-performance.
“Anambra People should be dismayed by that kind of reply. Instead of as a National Chairman of the party, providing directions in line with the party’s constitution; giving the governor a clear-cut direction concerning the vision and mission of the party, he is supporting something he should ordinarily not support.
” It is abnormal that a governor ,every other month, if he is not abroad, his wife is abroad. It’s depletion of Anambra state funds – money that should have been channeled to the development of infrastructure. Look at everywhere in Anambra, no critical infrastructure. The economy is dwindling. It’s very pathetic and the governor has travelled again in the presence of the surging pandemic.
” Everyday, you see an increase in cases of COVID-19 and the governor of the state is abroad, taking leave, not even having the courtesy of transmitting power to his deputy officially. It calls for concern.
“The worst is each time he travels, he travels with legion of people. Obiano should come back home and show leadership to the state, develop infrastructures in the state and improve the economy of the state so that the people of the state will have dividends of democracy.
“We call on him to cut short his trip and come back to Anambra to address the needs of the people. He cannot see the real issues in Anambra from America. Obiano should come back and rule Anambra from Anambra” he stated
Reacting, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba described the opposition party’s criticism as misplaced.
“First of all the governor has not travelled abroad in one year. The governor’s trip was a business trip, negotiating with a firm in Brazil over Anambra Airport. He is actually in Houston which is the oil centre of the world, negotiating for Anambra Refinery and Orient Petroleum and those who would want to invest in our crude oil in Aguleri. He is staying for a few days”Adinuba said.
