ABUJA, Nigeria – Former Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Mr. Babatunde Fowler is currently in the net of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Fowler visited the EFCC on invitation of the commission according to sources in the commission.
He is being interrogated for alleged financial impropriety in FIRS, the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS and its connection with Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Alpha Betta.
Recall that prior to his removal, Fowler was queried by the late Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari over dwindling revenue in FIRS. He was queried for remitting lower amount compared to what was collected under former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
In an internal memo, signed by former Chief of Staff, Mr. Abba Kyari, the presidency observed that total collection by FIRS under Tunde Fowler between 2015 and 2017 was worse than what was collected between 2012 and 2014.
He was then required to prepare a defence before the expiration of his tenure which was not renewed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Besides, the Presidency was further infuriated that there were variance between budgeted collection and actual collections between 2015 to 2018.
