ABUJA, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has granted waivers to Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy Governor, Phillip Shuaibu to enable them take part in the party’s primaries slated for Thursday, June 25, 2020.
In a statement, Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan said the waivers for Obaseki and Shuaibu were based on section 29(2)b of the PDP constitution as amended.
“Pursuant to Section 29(2)b of the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) 2017 as amended, and in exercise of the powers of the National Executive Committee(NEC) under Section 50(5) b of the PDP constitution, the National Working Committee has granted waiver to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki to enable him contest the Gubernatorial Primary of the PDP.
“In the same vein, the NWC has granted waiver to the Deputy Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Phillip Shuaibu to enable him participate in the nomination process”, the party said.

The PDP also ratified the application for the waivers by the ward Local Government State Executive of the party in Edo State and accordingly granted waivers to the governor and his deputy.
