Okays Uzodinma as governor

ABUJA, Nigeria- The Supreme Court of Nigeria today dismissed application of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Mr. Emeka Ihedioha through his lawyer, Mr. Kanu Agabi(SAN), seeking to review the judgement of the apex court which invalidated his election and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress(APC) as the duly elected governor of Imo State.

Ruling on the matter, the 7-man panel, led by Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad dismissed all grounds upon which Ihedioha sought a review of the judgement.

The ruling was moved to Tuesday when Kanu Aganbi,  lawyer to Emeka Ihedioha told the court that he was only served court processes in the court and pleaded with the seven-man panel shift the hearing to Tuesday, 03/03/2020.

But in split judgement, six-to-one judgement, the Supreme Court dismissed Ihedioha’s application. But Justice Cletus Nweze dissented.

The Supreme Court dismissed the application on the grounds that the court’s decision is final.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who read the lead ruling, held that the Supreme Court lacked the jurisdiction to review its judgment once it is delivered and that there is no law that mandates the court to reverse itself.
