ONITSHA, Nigeria – Minister of State for Science and Technology, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, has called for closer socio-economic cooperation between Nigeria and Egypt for the mutual benefit of both countries. Barrister Abdullahi, made the call when he received the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, in his office on Monday in Abuja.
Barrister Abdullahi said Nigeria and Egypt had much in common, adding that the Ministry will interface with the Embassy to seek out areas of collaboration in Science, Technology and Innovation.
He said the Ministry is focusing on using Science, Technology and Innovation to fight poverty in Nigeria in line with the Federal Government’s resolve to lift One hundred Million Nigerians out of poverty in the next decade.
Barrister Abdullahi, said that Nigeria considers Egypt as an important and dependable ally in Nigeria’s endeavor to transform from a commodity-based to a knowledge and innovation- driven economy.
Barrister Abdullahi said the Ministry will leave no stone unturned in synergizing with friendly nations in the bid to boost Science, Technology and Innovation.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s vision to achieve economic transformation, adding that Nigeria needs the cooperation of other countries in the African Sub-region to achieve this.
The Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Assem Elseify, said his country will avail Nigeria its expertise in Science and Technology.
