IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A 52 year old man, Akpederi Paul was today arraigned before Magistrate Mrs B.O.Osunsanmi of an Ikeja Magistrate Court for defiling his 16 year old daughter, Julie.




He was alleged to have committed the offence at Adegbite street, off Otunubi Road Ori-Okuta Ikorodu, Lagos. He pleaded guilty to the one count charge of defilement

According to the police prosecutor, the suspect sometimes in 2012 forcefully had canal knowledge of the daughter, at home when nobody was at home. An offence punishable under section 137 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.

The suspect who is alleged to be mentally ill had been a source of concern for people where he lives. Council to defendant Mrs A.O Gbadamosi, said the suspect is being psychiatrically sick, and that the family member are aware of the health condition of the suspect.

She appealed to the Magistrate, to allow the suspect go for medical checkup. Testifying in the matter, elder brother to the suspect, Anthony Akpederi, said, his brother has been misbehaving for sometimes now never knew it was going end up like this he said’’?

The police prosecutor, inspector lmhonwa Simeon, told the court that it is the duty of the police to conduct a psychiatric test before court investigation.

The charge reads, “That you Akpederi Paul sometimes in 2012 till date at No. 86 Adegbite Street, off Otunubi Road, on Okuta Ikorodu, Lagos, in the Lagos magisterial district did forcefully and unlawfully defile your daughter one Julie Akpederi age 16 year old and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 137 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.

The presiding officer magistrate Mrs B.O Osunsanmi grant the accused bail in the sum of N500,00 with two surety. The two sureties must be a perennial relationship of the defendant, one of the sureties, must be a property owner, with evidence of payment of tax. She adjourned the matter till December 6, 2017, for ruling.
