Nigeria, May 22, 2016 – A prominent politician in Borno State and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) during the 2015 general election, Alhaji Gambo Lawal, has expressed confidence that the party will resolve all issues currently tearing it apart and become stronger.
Speaking in an interview, Lawal, who is in Port-Harcourt as a delegate from Borno State for the national convention of the PDP said he was not too worried about the crisis rocking the party.
“What I am saying is that all these factions you see today; this is not the first time PDP had factions, right from 1999 till date that we are in the party. But all the same we have always come together. As a family, even two brothers can have differences from time to time. So, this is what is happening. But I believe that this issue will be settled very soon and PDP will become a viable and strong opposition party as it is supposed to be. PDP will become stronger and we will be able to take a lot of other people; bring back those of our people that went to APC and make PDP a very strong party again and win election in 2019. I have strong confidence that is exactly what is going to happen,” the PDP chieftain remarked.
He added: “People can always have different opinions, different understanding of situations and circumstance. What I want to say now is that all the PDP leaders across the country should close ranks and work together for the progress of this party. I don’t believe in factionalizing the party in anyway. Let them come and sit down and iron out their differences and move the party forward. Disagreements and misunderstanding will always come up among members in any organization be it political or otherwise. But what is important is the ability to resolve them amicably and forge ahead in the interest of the organization. ”
