Nigeria, March 8, 2016 – At least five people have been confirmed dead in a 5 storey building that collapsed at Lekki Garden Estate, Ikate, Elegushi, Lagos.

The five dead bodies were pulled from underneath the rubbles during rescue operation by men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders.

Speaking on the incident, General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele said six victims have been rescued alive adding that rescue operation was still in progress.

He said emergency responders on ground are LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) RRS, officials of the Nigerian Civil Defence, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigeria Police.

“Situation Report on collapsed building at Lekki garden estate horizon Ikate Elegushi, the building is 5 storey structure under construction, so far sir 6 victims have been rescued alive, while we have retrieved 5 bodies. “Rescue operations still in progress.

“All responders are on ground are on ground LASEMA, Lagos state fire service, LASAMBUS,RRS, civil defence merchant navy, NEMA, Nigeria Police”, LASEMA said.
