September 9, 2015 – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Vanguard, Bayelsa State, has called on security agencies to redouble their efforts to curb the rising crime and in areas that are flashpoint of political violence and antagonism.
While warning that the consequence of inaction was dangerous, the organisation said “Bayelsa State could become a theatre of war” because the leaders of the opposition were known for violence.
“The opposition in Bayelsa State should be properly monitored to avert breakdown of law and order before, during and after the governorship elections scheduled for December 5, 2015”, the group warned.
The organisation which warned that such actions constitute a threat to the peaceful conduct of the governorship elections, alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the recent abduction of Chief Fyneman Wilson, Special Adviser to the Governor Henry Seriake Dickson (Political Matters).
A statement issued on Wednesday in Yenagoa by the Publicity Secretary of PDP Youth Vanguard, James Ere, said Wilson’s kidnap was politically motivated.
He asked the security organs to step in and arrest the situation immediately.
“The APC leadership in Bayelsa State should be held responsible. They are a party of killers and kidnappers”, he claimed.
“As a group we condemn the resort to violence and sponsored kidnapping by the APC. As many are aware, some of the so-called leaders in the APC who are today parading themselves as governorship aspirants have a record of political violence and a penchant for blood-letting.
“That is their stock in trade and a situation where you now have all of them congregating in one political party, you can only imagine what will become of Bayelsa in this season. If care is not taken, they will make this state a theatre of war. They are even boasting that since they have the Federal Government, President Buhari will grant them the use of federal might to win the December 5 governorship election.”
He said the recourse to violence was the only means the opposition could be relevant in the state and as such bent on doing harm to peace and stability as a way of intimidation.
Ere however, said such strategy will fail during the election, stating that the people of the state were all united to vote the PDP for continuity.
