November 10, 2014 – Residents of Lagos State today marched to the Government House, Lagos State protesting what they described as shoddy handling of the distribution of Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
The aggrieved residents who came under the auspices of The Nucleus Group (TNG) armed themselves with placards with varying inscriptions such as “Fashola Do Not Retreat, Get Out Our PVC; INEC Has Failed Us; Jega Beware, Don’t Act FG Scripture in Lagos; INEC, Agege Need More Time For PVC collection; Is INEC An Agent of PDP”, among others condemned the way INEC is handling the exercise.
“We are here because we are aggrieved, we want to tell the world that we are not pleased with the way the exercise is going on. On Friday, when they said that the PVC distribution is going to begin, we went round but officials of INEC were not on ground. But today some of them are out but their performance is still below expectation, and again we want to appeal to INEC that 3 days is not enough”, leader of the group said.
Ademola said they are protesting because they don’t want to be disenfranchised in the 2015 general election.
“Lagos is a special place for us, it is our home, and there is no insurgence in Lagos, it is a peaceful place, so we don’t want our people to be disenfranchised. And it is going to affect our people in terms of performing their civic duties. We want at least 2 weeks extension”, he said.
Ademola explained that in some residents could not find their names and numbers in some polling units and were not able to collect their PVC, he said.
