Photo Editor of Daily Newswatch, Mr. Tunde Ogundeji is dead. He died early Tuesday morning after suffering from a brief illness. One of his children who called, his close friend confirmed the incident.
A source close to Daily Newswatch, told our correspondent that Ogundeji was last seen in the office on Sunday, looking quite tired and was actually shivering even with some vibration around the chest region when he was requested by junior colleagues to take some rest before he was physically assisted out of the office.
His friend, who is the Photo Editor of a sister company, National Mirror, Mr. Bayor Ewuoso drove him home and was later admitted at one of the hospitals in Lagos, where he was told by doctors to consult unorthodox medical practitioners for solution to his ailment.
A colleague of his who said he spoke to him via phone on Monday night, said Ogundeji told him he was heading to Abeokuta for treatment.
He said he could not get across to him on Tuesday morning adding that his phone was switched off when he called him to find out about his health condition.
Ogundeji , an award winning journalists was brutalised few months ago when he attempted to document Lagosians hanging aboard a moving locomotive as part of his effort to stop such ugly incident. He is said to be a professional to the core, very hardworking and loved by all he has worked with.
Daily Newswatch’s newsroom was said to have been thrown into commotion and wailing when news of his death filtered in. He has put in over 20 years in journalism. He was with the defunct Diet Newspaper. He was also at Comet and later The Nation before moving to Compass Newspapers as Photo Editor.He is in his 50s, married with children.
