The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has described the All Progressive Congress (APC) as a party that stands better suited and prepared to deal with and overcome problems that have confronted Nigeria in the post-independent era. Fashola made the remarks while speaking in Lagos at an occasion to mark his 2,300 days in office. He pointed out that the registration of the APC was a watershed and that it came about when many thought it would never be possible.

“When the journey started, the nay-Sayers quickly reminded us about how since the 1950s, no merger has been successfully concluded in Nigeria’s political history”, he said, stressing that they however failed to reckon with resolve because they were disconnected from present realities in Nigeria. “They had forgotten about the word change that is so constant in its recurrence. In their disconnection, they buried their head in the sand. They failed to realized that unusual things can happen and that change is constant”, the governor said, adding “If in so short a time, that party has overcome a hurdle that had existed before Nigeria became an independent nation, it perhaps stands better suited and prepared to deal with and overcome the problems that were created after Nigeria became independent”, he said.

While making allusion to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the governor said the party can no longer provide cover for members. “Against all odds, the umbrella cannot provide cover again because its many parts are breaking away. We now live in interesting times”, Fashola noted.

The governor pointed out that while the political front bristles, his government remains focused on service to the people of Lagos State. “I am pleased to report that we have started a Saturday service in Government departments such as lands, physical planning, motor vehicle administration and vehicle inspection service from 10AM to 2PM except on the last Saturdays of the month in order to provide service to those who cannot access them during the week because of the nature of their work”, the governor said.
