Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued the timetable for the Governorship election in Anambra State slated for November 16th, 2013.
According to the timetable released by the electoral umpire, activities for the election will start August 13 with the notice of election.
It will be followed by commencement of campaigns by political parties in August 18th. Candidates for the election are expected to collect forms from INEC office in Abuja on 26th August. Political parties are expected to conclude primaries for the election on September 2nd and resolve all issues that would arise from the primaries.
All candidates are expected to submit their forms to INEC on September 17, while particulars of candidates would be published September 24th. Political parties will have the privilege to withdraw and substitute candidates for the election in October 2nd, while particulars of substituted candidates will be published October 9.
October 17 will be the last day for submission of nomination forms by political parties, publication of official voters register and list of nominated candidates, while notice of poll, submission of names of party agents for the election to the Resident Electoral Commissioners will follow in November 2nd. November 15 will be the last day for campaigns to be followed with elections a day after.
The electoral umpires said it is embarking on the exercise in accordance with relevant sections of the Electoral Act, 2010 adding that runoff election to the office of governor of a state (if any) will be held within 7 days after the announcement of results in accordance with Section 179 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
