The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said that the emerging All Progressive Congress of (APC) is determined to give Nigeria good leadership, which it said has eluded the country for a very long time.
Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who made the clarification in Lagos said the promoters of the party have decided to shelve their differences and make whatever sacrifices that is necessary to achieve that objective.
He appealed to Nigerians whom he described as seeking an end to the current leadership to disregard attempts by enemies of progress to sabotage the birth of APC. He urged Nigerians to be vigilant stressing that vigilance is the price of liberty.
The ACN scribe said the APC is not controlled by Muslims adding that it reflects Nigeria’s plural values.
“The truth is that while ethno-religious sentiments did not form the criteria used in selecting the interim leadership, we were conscious that Nigeria is a country of plural values. That is why we have 17 Christians and 18 Muslims (the best balance possible in the odd number of 35 posts that we shared). That is why the occupiers of the positions are from 29 different states, four more than the 25 stipulated by INEC. It was equal opportunity across all zones”, the ACN scribe said in a statement.
The party challenged all who doubts authenticity of the figure presented to verify them from INEC office and desist from using the social media to spread rumour.
He described the rumour as part of the handiwork of those whom he said sponsored the duplication of the acronym, APC, adding that the development has failed to slow down the momentum of those behind the party. “They said the sharing posts will divide us and ultimately sound our death knell. With these moves having failed, they have now played what they considered the most potent joke, the ethno-religious card”, he said, stressing that those behind the gimmicks have failed.
